My experience in EMS30
Once upon a time there was a grade eleven student who decided to take media thinking it would be an easy course to lighten up her schedule consisting of Math and English. Once the semester started she thought the course was going to be watching movies, music videos and couldn’t wait for the trip to Toronto to visit the Much Music studio to be on the show Much on Demand. As the semester went on her whole perspective on the course changed, it wasn’t as easy as she thought. There were a lot of assignments, and the blog she had to do throughout the whole course was hard to manage. In the beginning her marks weren’t very good, but into the semester she worked really hard and got all her assignments done. She learned a lot more then she thought she would in this course, for example media literacy, communication theory, media analysis, copyright issues, culture and popular culture. Also history of media, tricks of persuasion and music videos.
Much Music
Much Music is a Canadian channel that is mostly targeted at teens. One of the most popular shows that airs on Much Music is Much On Demand (MOD) that plays requested music, has special guests, etc.
Before we got to MOD I was pretty excited, and was hoping that there would be a famous person there and we would be able to talk to them, but turns out there was just Jessie the VJ. Most of the time they were either showing music videos or outside talking to the people lined up waiting for wristbands for the MMVA'S. First when we got there we had to line up in a staircase to get wristbands to get into the show, after about a hour we were told to go inside. Seeing what it really looks like instead of what it looks like on TV is totally different. Inside there are people doing blogs and stuff for the show right infront of where they were filming.
The whole experience is mostly what I expected it to be, the only thing that shocked me was that when Jessie was asking people about their fears they had, he asked the whole audience and picked the most intresting one, if he didnt like what someone said he would move right onto the next person. There was a man telling Jessie exactly what to do at all times, like telling him what to say, where to wajlk and where to sit. Also to see how much MOD was constructed was a experience because they knew exactly what they were supposed to talk about and how the show was going to be planned out. From sitting on the set of Much on Demand, it really changes my perspective of a live TV show because they even have the audience being told what to do like how loud to scream, when to clap, and where people sit.
My overall experience on Much on Demand was really fun, I learned a lot about how media is constructed and the whole process in which they go through just to have one live show. It was really interesting to see everything being planned out before the show. I would definitely recommend people to go there and see what it’s all about. I plan on going again really soon!
Music Video Assignment
We made a video to the song "Wavin' Flag" by Young Artists. We made the video so the lyrics would be sync with pictures that represent the words used in the song. Syncing the words of the song with the pictures worked well because they pictures were perfectly on time with the words. We had problems finding some pictures for certain words and took a while to find good pictures. Some changes I would make to the video would be finding better pictures that we already have and making the video a little more intresting. My overall impression of the whole process of making this video was that it can be hard using different programs to put the pictures to be in sync with the song, but overall I thought the video turned out really well.
**The music video wouldn't upload onto my blog, but its the same as Vinny's and Nataljia's**

Attitude is everything.
This ad wants to show "attitude" more as cool, and if you are a male usually you would play xbox
The Cave Man Mentality.
In this ad the men are dressed in cowboy outfits, showing that they are more like heroes. Their facial expressions are more serious than anything to make them look like you don’t want to mess with them.

The New Warriors.
This ad is making the man look very tough, and with violence. It shows that it’s okay to be violent because after you do it you will be cool.

Muscles and the Ideal Man.
A “ideal man” is considered to be a tall, muscular, good looking, tanned guy. This type of guy should apparently be a role model for every other guy, and to look like him. Muscles on the man shown in the advertisement is used to sell the product, saying you will look like this if you buy it.

Heroic Masculinity.
This ad shows the two men being tough and have weapons. They are being protective of the female in the middle, and they are probably the heroes in the film and save the female from someone or something.

Real Beauty is Inner
One of the most powerful uses of modern media is the Dove Self-Esteem video ads the purpose is to educate women of all ages (and men) that real beauty is inner and to warn of the massive dangers of allowing children to be assaulted by the fashion industry.
•Why do you think there is so much focus in our society on body image?
I would think body image is not only a natural instinct within our brains, but it is also a mental state of mind and feeling. Not only does a good body image make us feel good mentally it will also help with our instincts to find a mate of the opposite sex.
•Where does our notion of an "ideal" body come from?
The notion of an ideal body image comes mostly from the media. One person will think that a good body image is right for them and make it available to the public from forms of media such as the internet, newspaper and magazines. The end result will be us thinking that this body type is ideal. As well an “ideal” body can come from the culture type as well as the friends and family one surrounds themselves in being taught or grown up in a certain type of environment.
•Why do we think we should look a certain way?
We think we should look a certain way because it makes us feel good emotionally, makes us happier and as an end result we become more open and sociable.
•How does the ideal image of a woman's body differ in other cultures? In other historic times? How does this compare to the ideal image of a man's body?
In a woman’s body previously women with a little more weight were seen as healthier and they ate more, a skinnier girl in older times was seen as poor or unhealthy. Plus wide hips were also seen good because they were known at the time to be good for child bearing. Now.. Guys usually look at skinnier girls as being better looking and larger girls, or girls with more weight as fat, obese or unhealthy.
A man’s body from a possible warriors society would assume to have more bulk muscle, and be fit. Low fat content and good muscle tone may show signs of good physical fitness.
•Who controls what images we see?
Our access to media and our surroundings control what we see. If we were in prison all our lives we would see something totally different then someone that is in the free world.
•Do you think teenage girls are especially vulnerable to these ideas? Do teenage boys feel similar pressures?
Yes, Girls are always purchasing make up. I think boys feel similar pressures but in a different way. Like to work out more.
•Dove paid 2.4 million dollars for 30 seconds of commercial time during Superbowl XL (2006) to launch the commercial featuring the young girls. The Dove commercial is very different from most of the commercials featured during Superbowl broadcasts. (Typically these commercials are light-hearted, comedic, and rarely address social issues.) What do you think are some of the reasons why Dove would choose the Superbowl to showcase their commercial?
I think Dove chose the SuperBowl to showcase their commercial because there is a viewing audience. Parents and teens both watch it. Parents are able to help make choices for their kids/ teens and Teens can see with their own eyes.
•For the most part, the Dove campaign has been well received by audiences. However, in addition to a few critics, there have also been some examples of the ads in public spaces being defaced. Why do you think some people may be critical of the Dove campaign?
Some people may be critical of the Dove campaign for jealousy reasons. Possibly certain popular teens think they are really pretty and do not want their image to be changed.

Avirl Lavigne vs. The Rubinoos

Girlfriend- Avril Lavigne
"hey, hey, you, you I don't like your girlfriend
no way, no way, I think you need a new one
hey, hey, you, you I can be your girlfriend"
"hey, hey, you, you I don't like your girlfriend
no way, no way, I think you need a new one
hey, hey, you, you I can be your girlfriend"
I want to be your boyfriend- The Rubinoos
"hey you, I wanna be your boyfriend
trying to say I wanna be your number one
hey you, I wanna be your boyfriend
gonna make you love me before I'm done"
Copyright is one of the worst things a singer or any celebrity can do. It can ruin your whole image and makes you look bad taking something that belongs to someone else and taking all the credit for it. Also it is illegal which can cause someone to put a lawsuit against you.
The Rubinoos with their song "I want to be your boyfriend" and Avirl Lavigne and her song "Girlfriend" had a controversy with copyright. The founder of the Rubinoos said they thought the two songs were very similar. Avril had said to this that she has never heard of that song or even the band! In my opinion I don't think the two songs are similar at all, the only thing they have in common are they are both singing about the same thing. Avirl is singing about telling a guy that he needs a new girlfriend and that she can be his girlfriend. When the Rubinoos are singing about wanting to be a boyfriend to one of his friends. The chorus of both songs do sound similar with the same type of tempo and beat but I don't think this was done on purpose or copied. Also the Rubinoos had their song way before Avril was even a celebrity I don't think that she would need to copy someone else's songs to make herself successful. Also if Avril is telling the truth when she says she has never even heard of the Rubinoos I think she is telling the truth because she has had many other sucessful songs that were her own ideas. I really don't think this controversy would affect her image because even if she is guilty or innocent she still had a song that was very popular which had the most views for its video about 127 million views. Also she has many other songs that are still to her benefit and people listen to.

How much is to much?
Just because your bigger doesn't mean you can drink more. Your weight, size, age, gender doesn't determine how much you can drink without blowing over. Many people think because of their size or weight bigger people can drink more without getting drunk as fast, or a smaller person can get drunk quickly. Not true, just because you have two drinks doesn't mean you couldn't blow over...anyone is able to have a little amount of drinks and be over the blood alcohol limit.
The laws aren't strict enough with drinking. 0.05 to 0.08 is considered to be "warn range" and if you exceed the limit your license will only be suspended for 3 days, and will be on your driving record for 5 years. This wouldn't teach anyone that drinking to much and driving is serious. 3 days without your license is nothing com paired to what could have happened if there was a accident. If something were to happen from someone driving drunk, there could be life consequences rather than just 3 days.
For some people they think having just a couple drinks wont do anything but after a while you might not realize how much you are drinking and think your totally fine and go drive, and blow over. Causing something that could have been prevented. Not knowing or being aware of what or how much you are drinking is harmful to you and anyone else around you.
